Sonny the Alien: The Web

On a beautiful late summer morning, Sonny decided to go for a walk.

He put on his shoes and headed out, coffee in hand.

He breathed deep through his nose. “Earth summer mornings are quite pleasant,” he said to himself.

He got two blocks down and then…

“Ugh!” He bellowed reaching up towards his face. “What is tickling me?”

He stopped and waved his arms. “An extremely fine piece of…string? No…silk?”

He felt around his face. “Possibly a very well-disguised trip wire.”

He walked over to the closest tree on the boulevard and inspected it. “Nothing out of the ordinary.” He muttered.

He took a step back and looked around. “The block is eerily quiet. Too quiet.”

He crouched down and put his ear to the sidewalk. “Hmm. Earth’s electromagnetic vibrations seem normal.”

Just then another walker came by. “Hi there! Everything okay?”

Sonny stood up quickly. “Oh…I seem to have run into some sort of very fine trip wire. I’m currently investigating.”

The walker chuckled. “Trip wire? You sure it wasn’t a spider web?”

Sonny cocked his head and looked at the walker quizzically. “Spider web?”

The walker pointed to the tree. “Yeah, the little guys string their webs across trees to catch prey. You must’ve been one of their unlucky victims. Good thing you’re not a fly!”

Sonny chuckled nervously. “Good thing.”

The walker waved. “Well, have a good day!”

Sonny smiled sheepishly. “You too, thank you.”

He watched the man walk off, and then looked nervously at the tree. Then around the neighborhood. He put his hands on his hips. “Arachnids.”

He took out his Earth log device and began typing.
